Hi Reader! I grew up reading Seventeen, Bop, and Teen Vogue. Somewhere along the way, I became convinced of a narrative: that in order to feel attractive and accepted, my body needed to look a certain way. So in college, while teaching step aerobics, I’d literally calculate calories burned after every class. Because my brain genuinely believed I could "earn" food with exercise. Then I found weight lifting. In the late 90s and early 2000s, the women building muscle were usually the ones trying to get on stage for a bodybuilding. I worked at a gym during summers home from college, so I was surrounded by gym rats, boiled chicken and broccoli, protein powders and Hydroxycut, folks disappearing into the back to inject hormones, facial acne and "back-ne", and endless opinions about whether women should lift heavy and build visible muscle. I remember learning how to lift weights. My muscles responded well. I remember the embarrassment too. The comments about looking “manly” and feeling self-conscious about my “bulky” shoulders and arms ... then I spent years trying to only build my glutes because that felt more acceptable. A decade went by. I got married, had kids, and took a looooong break from the gym. By the time we hit our late 30s and 40s, a lot of us were trying to “fix” bodies that were not only tired of being forced, they were starting to revolt. The lifting sessions I once looked forward to started feeling like drudgery. Then one of my clients reported that committing to 10-minute workouts was what finally helped her stay uber consistent. Erratic hour-long workouts turned into near-daily consistency, plus progress in her push-ups—without the wrist pain. Jackpot! The issue for many women isn’t laziness. It’s friction. It’s the sneaky subconscious belief that diet and training have to feel extreme to count. Our community teaches women how to lower the friction: Making each rep count and halting leaked time/energy =shorter workouts achieving visible results because consistency is queen. Clothes start buttoning again without endless cardio. Overdosing on cardio was creating diminishing returns all along (bummer). I still love the pump, the sweat, and the dopamine high of cardio… we just stopped using it to try to earn our food/physique. Hi Fabulous Reader! 2 underrated health upgrades women our age often miss: Short bursts of maximal effort (“sprint”) intervals Fiber from real food Why sprint intervals? Power is one of the first physical qualities we lose with age. Power helps us stay athletic, and better protected from falls and injury as we age. I’m not talking about hour-long HIIT classes. I mean ultra short 20 - 30 second bursts of max effort: bike sprints, rower sprints, battleropes, medball slams, etc. Click here for...
Hi Reader! The women who are actually happy with their health and physique, are doing what most aren’t: They’re dialed in to their psychology. The (often unconscious) beliefs driving their behavior. Most women who feel a gap between where they are and where they want to be, fall into two camps: ProcrastinationorBelieving they’re the exception I was both. Why? Because of how we’re beautifully created! We're not biologically wired to act today for a better—but uncertain—future. So we delay…...
